MY LAST CIRCLE OF THE YEAR ⭕💚

This will be my last Circle of the year and if you have been watching from the sidelines, wondering what actually happens in these gatherings, this is your invitation to join us.

We meet on Saturday 22 November at The Elephant Rooms in Draycott from 1 to 4pm. Think of it less as an event and more as a gentle landing place. A room where you can exhale. A space where you do not have to perform or pretend or fix anything about yourself (or anyone else)

We begin slowly. A warm welcome, a gentle settling in, an invitation to arrive exactly as you are.
Then we sit together in Circle, which simply means we share stories from our lives. You are never required to speak. Many women come for the first time and choose to listen and that is more than enough.

After this we move into EcoNIDRA, a nature based meditation that rests your entire system. You lie down, cosy and warm, and let my voice guide you through the senses, the body, and a gentle soundscape from the natural world. People often say it feels like being held by the earth herself.

It is a beautiful way to close the month. A sacred pause before winter. A place to remember yourself.

I would love to welcome new women over the threshold and it would be such a joy to see familiar faces too.

WORDS THAT SHIMMER

LIFE LATELY

Hola, it’s been a little while.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I don’t want to feed the algorithm or be fed by it. Sometimes I just want to be a human being outside, with nothing much to do and nowhere in particular to be. So, I’ve been doing quite a bit of that.

In between the pondering and seeing my wonderful somatic coaching Clients, I’ve been dreaming into next year’s offerings and visiting some new venues. It’s been such a joy meeting inspiring people who care deeply for the land they tend. Next year, there’ll be more gatherings outdoors, and I can’t wait to share that with you.

Meanwhile, my hair has grown, my wrinkles are coming along nicely, and the baby hedgehogs are still showing up for supper every night. It amazes me, their innate intelligence, how they somehow know they can’t hibernate until they reach 450g, or they won’t make it through the winter. Nature never ceases to amaze me.

ALTARS AS A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE SEEN AND THE UNSEEN

Before every session, I pause.

The ones who carried us here.

LISTENING TO OUR BODIES

After years of therapy, some of it incredible, some less so, and three decades on the hamster wheel of the self-help industry, I reached a point where I instinctively knew enough was enough.

What if I wasn’t broken?
What if I didn’t need to be fixed?
What if I stopped pathologising myself and stepped out from under the shadows of the labels I’d been given?

It was around this time that it became obvious my body was screaming for me to pay attention.
I realised I had become completely cut off from it, which in truth was no great surprise.
My body had carried a lot of pain.
It had become a battleground through years of chronic illness and survival.
So of course I had learned to disconnect from it.
I had floated above it, living from the neck up swimming in a world of thoughts and endless chatter.
That’s when I knew it was time to come home,
to learn to speak my body’s native language.
When I first started searching for a somatic practitioner, I thought Somatics would help me cross that longed-for threshold, the one where you leave the old version of yourself behind and emerge as something new, like a butterfly fully formed.
But in reality, something else happened instead.
There wasn’t a leaving behind.
There was a deep turning toward.
A remembering.
What I found wasn’t just resilience,
but prosilience,
the sacred act of turning shit into fertiliser.
This work didn’t polish me into a brighter version of myself.
It helped me root more deeply into the truth of who I already was.
Messy. Tender. Whole.
And that, I think, is what real healing feels like.
You don’t process, discard, and emerge as the butterfly.
You compost, integrate, and grow roots that can hold more of life.
Because healing isn’t about becoming someone new,
it’s about becoming more fully you.

Hares are the only game species in England and Wales that can be shot all year round. It’s reported that the UK brown hare population has fallen by more than 80% in the past 100 years.
Shooting during breeding season leaves dependent young to starve to death.

Scotland introduced a close season over a decade ago, and many European countries already protect hares this way. It is time our Government acted — for animal welfare and for biodiversity.

@chloedaltonuk started a petition to remedy this.
The petition is live right now, but it closes on 29 October. We need 66,000 signatures for it to be heard in Parliament. We’re at 44,000 — that means 22,000 more voices are needed.

Together we can help protect these extraordinary creatures who have leapt through folklore, poetry, and the fields of our ancestors, yet whose survival now depends on us.

Even then, Circle calls me home. Again and again, I’m humbled by the quiet bravery of the women who sit beside me. Each of us living seemingly ordinary lives, yet meeting them with extraordinary resilience and heart.

I will never take for granted the privilege of bearing witness to another woman’s story — nor the courage it takes to lay those tender depths before others.

Thank you to the beautiful constellation of women who gathered today. You remind me, every time, that a kinder, more equitable, more caring world is possible.

I’ve just watched a reel of a Palestinian baby take its last few breaths. It died of starvation.

I’m sat at my kitchen table, food in the fridge, shelter, safety. What a privilege. And yet, 2,275 miles away a mother allowed her babies dying moments to be recorded so that the world could bare witness.

If you haven’t protested, boycotted, written to your MP, donated, used your voice, your privilege, your platforms in anyway up to now.

NOW IS THE TIME

RAISING HARE

I wanted to share this beautiful, treasure of a book with you by @chloedaltonuk. I’m late to the party with this memoir as it was released last year and I somehow missed it - and the book tour, sadly.

I have a lifelong love affair with the mysterious Hare. My Mum was the same so perhaps her love of these magnificent more-than-human-kin rubbed off on me, which brings me comfort. As soon as I saw the title, I knew I had to read it and that’s what I’ve done with every spare waking moment. I read the book in three days, it was so captivating.

Raising Hare is the captivating story of the author’s experience of finding an abandoned leveret on the track near her house in the countryside. Without knowing what the best thing to do was, she decided to pick it up and take it home in an attempt to save its fragile life. As magical as the story is, it’s also very confronting. I appreciated the research the author did to bring the harrowing history of the hare to life. It was, at times, a bitter pill to swallow and still is when you consider how fragile their existence is to this day.

I truly believe that stories are human magic and when a story touches our heart, it changes us. It adds another thread to the tapestry of who we are and how we relate to one another and, in this case, our more-than-human-kin. This story is utterly breathtaking and one I will return to again and again.

I’ve also been enjoying Chloe’s Instagram feed - It’s helped me realise that there are thousands of people who, just like me, find the hare captivating. Sadly, there are just as many that think this gentle creature who walks so lightly on the earth is a pest. And, unlike many animals in the UK, there are no laws that protect it from hunters. You can shoot a hare at any time of the year meaning they’re being killed when they are pregnant or nursing leveret’s that can’t survive without their mother.

If you love hares and the natural world, you will love this book. It's magic.

MY MOTHER'S WHISPERS

The second I saw this piece by Palestinian artist @dana_barqawi, it took my breath away.

It speaks of indigenous motherhood and resistance—of lineages of women whispering ancient teachings into the ears of the mothers to come. Of tending to the land with babies at our sides. Of nourishment, resilience, and deep remembering.

It is also a reckoning—with colonialism and the wounds it carves across generations and land.

If it were for sale and I had the funds, I would buy it in a heartbeat and hang it proudly in my home.

It made me think of my Mum.
And my Nanny.
And my great granny Johnson.
And the land I was raised on in Lincolnshire.

I carry so much grief for what has been lost—but a deep gratitude for what still lives on.

It made me think of my ancestors, some of whom were Dutch. They came to Lincolnshire in the 1630s to drain the fens, turning ancient wetlands into farmland. This history lives in my bones too—of both belonging and the complicity of the assault on the land. To this day, I cannot bear to look at a flat landscape.

This artwork stirred something old in me. A memory that is not just personal, but ancestral.
A reminder that my body is an extension of my mother’s body.
That my love of the land is inherited.
That she is still with me—whispering, always.

IT IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL TO CREATE WITH OUR HANDS

I’ve been quietly searching for a creative hobby for a while now—something tactile and soulful, a way to get out of my head and into my body. I’ve tried a few things over the past couple of years, but this was my first go at glassblowing—and I’m hooked.

My husband bought me a workshop for Christmas two years ago, and for one reason or another, this was my fifth attempt at actually getting there. Life, eh? But it was worth the wait.

There’s something ancient and elemental about it. Fire, breath, movement, surrender. You can’t control the glass—you have to work with it. There’s a kind of alchemy in that dance: the heat, the spin, the shimmering unpredictability. And then, suddenly, you’re holding a form that didn’t exist before. Something fragile, beautiful, and entirely yours—including its wobbles and imperfections.

I was so excited to receive my finished glasses in the post today. I feel like a child bringing home a big creative project to show her parents 🤣

I haven't shared what I'm reading for a while so thought I'd remedy that with a post. I have had this book in my pile of books to read for a while but have only just picked it up. It's so beautifully written and is a tender and evocative read.

In the book, she shares the wisdom of Indigenous ways of knowing which is rooted in relationship, reciprocity, and reverence for the living world. More than anything, it's a remembering of how to belong - again

One line in particular has settled in my bones:

“The land knows you, even when you are lost.”

What a gift. To be known by the land even if you’ve forgotten how to know yourself.
To be held by something older than the systems that have disconnected us.

This book is not just a read—it’s a way of remembering the way back home. A guide back to a way of being that honours the earth as teacher, as relative, as sacred, as Kin.

It's certainly a book I'm going to re-read that's for sure.

HOPE AS RESISTANCE

Lately, I’ve been feeling… good.
Not in a shiny, everything’s-perfect kind of way, but in a quiet, embodied way.
Moments where I’ve felt my breath land deeper.
Where my body has felt like a place I can live in again.
Where something undigested has finally moved, softened, been met.

This is the fruit of slow, steady somatic work I've been doing.
Letting my body speak truths it has held for years.
Tending gently to the parts of me that were never given space to feel, to release, to digest.

And still…
It feels hard to feel good when so much of the world is aching.
When children are being buried beneath rubble.
When entire bloodlines are being erased.
When the grief feels so enormous it’s hard to know where to place it.

And then—
Today, I found a tiny baby bush cricket in my garden.
So delicate I almost missed it.
And yet, there it was: antennae trembling, lurid green legs poised - ready to retreat from my presence.

Our insect populations are in collapse.
And still, in suburban Nottingham, in this small patch of land I tend — life persists.
That cricket filled me with wonder and awe.
But more than that, it brought me something I’d almost felt too scared to acknowledge
Hope. I felt hopeful

There are those who would rather we didn’t feel it.
Who feed on our dismay.
Who count on us being too heartbroken to rise,
too overwhelmed to act,
too numb to notice the shimmer of life unfurling in the cracks.

But hope, when it’s rooted in love for this world,
is not flimsy or naive.
It is a fierce and rebellious thing.
A pulse that keeps us connected.
A thread that says — even now, especially now — stay with it.
Stay open.
Stay alive.

Because to feel wonder in a world like this is not betrayal —
it is a form of resistance.
A way of remembering what’s worth protecting.

My joy does not erase my heartbreak.
My healing does not mean I look away.
I am trying to live within the balance of these things.
To let my nervous system soften, not shut down.
To keep my heart open — to my own life, and to the lives of others.

This, too, is resistance.

The Sunday Sanctuary is a soft place to land at the end of the week. A gentle, nourishing space where you can exhale, drop your shoulders, connect with your heart, and remember what matters to you.

There is no pressure to perform, fix, or even speak. Just a warm virtual hearth to gather around — a place woven together with poetry, music, storytelling and the kind of quiet witnessing that lets the nervous system soften.

This space is just for you. A pause in the busyness. A breath between the pages. An hour or two where you don’t have to be anything other than who you are, however you are on that day.

We begin with a Circle — a time to settle, to be witnessed, to listen from the heart. When the Circle closes, I’ll guide you into a deeply restful EcoNIDRA practice. This is a nature-infused meditation where you’ll be gently invited to lie down, get cosy, and drift into a state of spacious calm. Nothing to do, nowhere to be. Just a slow unwinding, supported by the sounds of nature you’ll return to the quiet wisdom within.

Come in your comfies. Bring a blanket, a cuppa, and your
beautiful self.

GRIEF AND THE END OF WINTER

I’ve come to cherish winter with its invitation to slow down and rest deeply, but this one has felt especially long and especially dark. It’s a year now since I lost my Mum, which, in the landscape of grief, is no time at all. But this season of loss has been made heavier by what’s felt like a wet and light-starved winter that has pressed the air from my lungs and made the days feel heavy.

It feels as though winter has stretched itself across twelve long months, and I am now aching and ravenous for spring.

So, now, each time I catch sight of a snowdrop, or the green promise of a daffodil, or the sheer rhapsody of blossom beginning to whisper itself into being, something within me softens. My breath returns. If the sun graces me with her presence, I make a point of turning toward her, eyes closed, the corners of my mouth lifting, remembering, at last, what it is to smile.

Though this winter has been my heaviest in a long while, I haven’t walked it alone. For the past five months, I have warmed myself at the hearth of The Art of Grief Tending, a six-month apprenticeship in holding space for grief. What an honour and a privilege it has been to study with Nici Harrison @thegriefspace. I can’t quite put into words what a balm this training has been for my weary heart.

When we speak of grief, we often think of bereavement. But grief is a daily companion in the human experience, woven into endings, disappointments, and the quiet ache of what never came to be. It is vast, complex, and so often carried alone. In a world that has forgotten the village, we grieve in isolation. Grief tending offers an antidote to that.

As my training edges towards completion in April, I’ll be sharing more about grief—what it means to tend to it, to welcome it in community. ECONIDRA FUNDRAISER FOR SULALA ANIMAL RESCUE

I’m sure it hasn’t escaped you that we are living through some of humanity's darkest days. It would be easy to watch the news or ‘doom scroll’ on these squares and think that all hope is lost but good people are doing good work across the globe so I’m choosing to orient towards that, and I want to support those people as much as I can.

That’s why I’ve organised an EcoNIDRA fundraiser for the wonderful people who run @sulalaanimalrescue They have never stopped caring for the sick and injured animals of the Gaza Strip. Sa’ed and his team have put their lives at risk every day to help the animals of Gaza and I have come to have a huge amount of respect for them all. Sa’ed is an animal lover who has a kind and compassionate heart.

I will be holding an online EcoNIDRA session on Sunday 16th of March at 7pm to raise funds for Sulala. The event is now live on my site and all tickets are ‘pay what you feel’ with all of the proceeds going to Sulala Animal Rescue. You can buy a ticket via the link in my bio.

If you’re new to EcoNIDRA it’s often described as where Yoga Nidra and Forest Bathing meet. EcoNidra is more than just a meditation; it's a deeply relaxing and restorative experience. Studies have shown that just one session equals the rejuvenation of 3-4 hours of restful sleep. In each session, we travel together on a triple journey; the first is a journey into our senses, the second is a pilgrimage through our bodies and the third takes us into the natural world through a specially curated soundscape. The session will last for fifty minutes and will happen on Zoom. If you aren’t able to make the session live, a recording will be sent to everyone that signs up which also means you have it to go back to any time you feel like you need some deep rest.

WHAT THE BLACKBIRD TOLD ME

From the time I was a little girl, I’ve felt a deep connection with the humble blackbird. One of my most tender memories is lying in a meadow at dusk, hands cradled beneath my head, eyes closed, as a chorus of blackbirds sang around me. Their song was so enchanting, it felt like an ecstatic synesthesia—each note transformed into a sweet nectar I could almost taste. Melodies rose like iridescent bubbles on the breeze, delicate and fleeting, and I imagined reaching out to touch them as they floated by.

For over forty years, I’ve listened to blackbirds, and in that time, I’ve become fluent in their language. Yesterday, as I tended to my bird feeders at dusk, I heard the call I wait for every year—the blackbirds announcing that spring is near. It’s a distinct song, one I only hear at this time of year. Sometimes it arrives surprisingly early, other times worryingly late, but this year, as we arrive at Imbolc, it’s come right on time.

There are so many signs of spring. The nights are slowly growing shorter, the light lingers a little longer each evening, and beneath the cold earth, life is beginning to stir. There’s a hum in the air, a quiet awakening, as the sap rises in the trees, whispering that change is on its way. Even as winter still holds us, Imbolc reminds us that spring is inevitable—that even in the coldest, darkest days, the Earth is turning toward warmth and renewal.

This is a potent time to gather, to pause and listen to our own quiet shifts. To honor this season of emergence, I’m holding a Women’s Circle on Saturday, 15th February @elephantroomsdraycott a space to come together, breathe, and reflect. As part of this gathering, we’ll sink into an EcoNIDRA, a deeply restorative guided meditation that invites you to connect with the wisdom of the natural world.

2024: A YEAR OF SITTING WITH HOPE

Every year, as the calendar edges toward its final page, I sit with my ritual of choosing a word for the year ahead. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions or map out grand plans for my “best year yet.” Instead, it’s a quieter, more intuitive process. I reflect on the year gone by, composting what no longer serves me and I listen to my heart as it gently orients me toward a word to companion me through the next cycle.

For 2024, my word was hope. As I look back, I can’t help but feel the cosmos knew exactly what it was doing when it dropped hope into my lap. This year has been one of trials, heartbreak, and being reminded of how to hold steady in the storm.

Sitting with hope isn’t just about feeling hopeful. It isn’t all rainbows, sunsets, or the sacred inhale of a newborn’s first breath. Hope is resolute and battle-worn. It carries the weight of whispered prayers and unanswered questions. It stands its ground, even when the world feels like it’s unraveling.

This year, I turned 50.
This year, I lost my mum.
This year, I watched unspeakable horrors unfold in Palestine and beyond.
This year, I faced an unexpected health challenge that has turned my world upside down.

2024 has been a dark night-of-the-soul kind of year for me but even in the darkest corners, hope has reminded me it’s still there, still holding a light, still whispering, "Not yet, keep going".

Now, as I've blown out the candles on 2024, I’m ready to welcome my word for 2025: Capacity. I feel its pull, its promise, its quiet wisdom but I’ll be bringing hope along for the ride too—because she’s needed, both personally and collectively. She’s been a steadfast ally, and I’m not ready to leave her behind.

Before I sign off, I want to thank you. Thank you for being here this year—for the connections we've made, the messages we've exchanged and the poems we've shared. But, most of all, thank you for your presence. Thank you for sitting in Circle, for connecting in these little squares and for walking alongside me in this ever-unfolding journey.

Whatever 2025 holds for us, may we hold it together

SOLSTICE BLESSINGS ✨

Today, I answered the call of the woods. There's been a pull in my chest, a whisper in my heart, asking me to find a piece of woodland to call home. Though this particular woods lies close to where I live, I'd never ventured into it—until today. There was something about today, the Winter Solstice that felt like the perfect time to go, to introduce myself, and to honour the day with a small ritual.

The woods felt ancient and alive with its own stories. On its edge stands the Hemlock Stone, millions of years old and steeped in local legend. The Druids are said to have held rituals here, and as the wind roared through the trees around me, I could feel the weight of its history and perhaps, the echoes of something sacred.

I made my offering to the earth, a quiet moment of gratitude and connection. And now, I share my offering with you—a favourite poem from my favourite poet, gifted with love and Solstice magic. ✨

Starlings in Winter Mary Oliver

Chunky and noisy,
but with stars in their black feathers,
they spring from the telephone wire
and instantly

they are acrobats
in the freezing wind.
And now, in the theater of air,
they swing over buildings,

dipping and rising;
they float like one stippled star
that opens,
becomes for a moment fragmented,

then closes again;
and you watch
and you try
but you simply can't imagine

how they do it
with no articulated instruction, no pause,
only the silent confirmation
that they are this notable thing,

this wheel of many parts, that can rise and spin
over and over again,
full of gorgeous life.

Ah, world, what lessons you prepare for us,
even in the leafless winter,
even in the ashy city.
I am thinking now
of grief, and of getting past it;

I feel my boots
trying to leave the ground,
I feel my heart
pumping hard. I want

to think again of dangerous and noble things.
I want to be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing,
as though I had wings.

Today, I answered the call of the woods. There's been a pull in my chest, a whisper in my heart, asking me to find a piece of woodland to call home. Though this particular woods lies close to where I live, I'd never ventured into it—until today. There was something about today, the Winter Solstice that felt like the perfect time to go, to introduce myself, and to honour the day with a small ritual.

The woods felt ancient and alive with its own stories. On its edge stands the Hemlock Stone, millions of years old and steeped in local legend. The Druids are said to have held rituals here, and as the wind roared through the trees around me, I could feel the weight of its history and perhaps, the echoes of something sacred.

I made my offering to the earth, a quiet moment of gratitude and connection. And now, I share my offering with you—a favourite poem from my favourite poet, gifted with love and Solstice magic. ✨

Starlings in Winter Mary Oliver

Chunky and noisy,
but with stars in their black feathers,
they spring from the telephone wire
and instantly

they are acrobats
in the freezing wind.
And now, in the theater of air,
they swing over buildings,

dipping and rising;
they float like one stippled star
that opens,
becomes for a moment fragmented,

then closes again;
and you watch
and you try
but you simply can't imagine

how they do it
with no articulated instruction, no pause,
only the silent confirmation
that they are this notable thing,

this wheel of many parts, that can rise and spin
over and over again,
full of gorgeous life.

Ah, world, what lessons you prepare for us,
even in the leafless winter,
even in the ashy city.
I am thinking now
of grief, and of getting past it;

I feel my boots
trying to leave the ground,
I feel my heart
pumping hard. I want

to think again of dangerous and noble things.
I want to be light and frolicsome.
I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing,
as though I had wings.

of hard work and a long voyage
you stand in the centre of your room,
house, half-acre, square mile, island, country,
knowing at last how you got there,
and say, I own this,

is the same moment when the trees unloose
their soft arms from around you,
the birds take back their language,
the cliffs fissure and collapse,
the air moves back from you like a wave
and you can’t breathe.

No, they whisper. You own nothing.
You were a visitor, time after time
climbing the hill, planting the flag, proclaiming.
We never belonged to you.
You never found us.
It was always the other way round.

'LIFE LATELY' PHOTO DUMP

If you are on my mailing list, you will know that I've been in deep rest mode whilst I've tried to rest my way out of a chronic illness flare that had floored me. Resting isn't something that comes naturally to me, I've always been a striver, a good student, a good worker......you know the story, don't you?!

But now, I'm pleased to say, I've become incredibly 'good' at resting when I need to because, rest is resistance my friends.
